Our Approach
At Mtoto Stawi, we believe that improving child growth, nutrition, and development requires addressing the broader conditions that shape children's lives.
Our work focuses on empowering communities, strengthening caregiving environments, and promoting policies that support children's well-being. To achieve this, we use two key, interconnected approaches: locally led development and advocacy.
Locally Led Development
Mtoto Stawi believes that sustainable solutions for children must come from within the communities where they live. We work closely with caregivers, community members, and local institutions to understand the realities that shape children's growth and development.
By valuing local knowledge and experiences, we support communities to identify their priorities and co-create practical solutions that respond to their needs. Through this approach, we strengthen the capacity of caregivers and communities to nurture children, promote healthy practices, and create supportive environments.
Learn MoreAdvocacy
Mtoto Stawi is committed to ensuring that evidence and community experiences inform policies and programs that affect children's lives. Through research and engagement with stakeholders, we advocate for policies, systems, and investments that address the root causes of poor child growth, nutrition, and development.
By working with government institutions, partners, and decision-makers, we promote equitable policies and increased attention to the contextual factors that influence children's well-being.
Learn MoreGuided by These Principles
Do No Harm
We carefully consider the potential impacts of our interventions on families and communities, and take steps to prevent unintended harm.
Listen First
We begin by listening to communities and families to understand their realities before proposing any solutions.
Build for Sustainability
We design programs to strengthen local capacity so communities can continue to support children long after our direct involvement ends.
