Our Focus

Child Development

A child's first years are a critical window for brain development. We support caregivers to create nurturing, stimulating environments where children can thrive.

What Is Child Development?

Child development encompasses the cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical skills that children acquire from birth onwards. Early childhood development (ECD) — from birth to age 8 — is particularly critical: the brain develops faster during these years than at any other time in life.

Why It Matters

Children who receive adequate stimulation, nurturing care, and learning opportunities in their early years develop stronger brains, do better in school, earn more as adults, and lead healthier lives. Returns on investment in early childhood are among the highest of any development activity.

Our Child Development Work

  • Educating caregivers on responsive caregiving and early stimulation practices
  • Supporting early childhood development programs in communities
  • Promoting play-based learning and exploration
  • Addressing psychosocial factors that affect child development
  • Advocating for stronger ECD policies at national level
  • Ensuring children with developmental delays receive appropriate support and referrals

Protecting Development in a Digital Age

As more children in Tanzania come online, protecting them from digital risks becomes essential. We help build safer digital environments where children can learn, explore, and grow without harm.
