Our Focus

Child Nutrition

Proper nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life is critical for a child's survival, growth, and development. We work to end malnutrition in Tanzania.

Why Nutrition Matters

Malnutrition remains one of the greatest threats to child health in Tanzania. It takes many forms: undernutrition (wasting, stunting, underweight), micronutrient deficiencies, and increasingly overnutrition. Each has serious consequences for child health and development.

The First 1,000 Days

The period from conception to a child's second birthday is the most critical window for nutrition intervention. Damage caused by malnutrition during this period is largely irreversible. Investment in this period yields some of the highest development returns.

A Story: Supporting Malnourished Twins

We supported a single mother caring for malnourished twins after being neglected by the children's father. Mtoto Stawi worked with the mother to improve the children's nutrition through access to nutritious food and guidance on appropriate child feeding. At the same time, we helped strengthen her economic stability, facilitated medical care access, and supported improvements in living conditions. Today, both children are thriving.
