Child Growth
Healthy physical growth in early childhood is the foundation of a child's entire future. We work to ensure every Tanzanian child grows up strong.
What Is Child Growth?
Child growth refers to the physical changes that happen as a child develops — including increases in height, weight, and body composition. Growth is a fundamental indicator of a child's overall health and nutritional status.
The Challenge in Tanzania
Stunting — when children are too short for their age due to chronic undernutrition — affects millions of Tanzanian children. Stunting is not just a physical problem: it affects brain development, learning capacity, and lifetime earnings. It is largely preventable with the right interventions.
Our Work on Child Growth
Mtoto Stawi approaches child growth from a socio-cultural perspective. We understand that growth is not just biological — it is shaped by family practices, cultural norms, food systems, health access, and community structures.

- Linking families to health services and nutritional support
- Advocating for policies that address structural drivers of poor growth
